The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 可能是我个人期待值过高，看完并没有感觉多么惊喜。整部电影说是剧本杀形式不如说是话剧形式。毕竟剧本杀就是个低配话剧。喜剧部分做的不错，还是典型的万合天宜的笑点，恶搞的《闪灵》《英雄本色》《无间道》《爸，我回来了》这几处迷影歌曲内部梗最好笑。而喻恩泰的角色明显在映射王晶。然而悬疑部分差点意思，作为社会派推理题材，悬疑气氛营造的不够，始终没有让我感觉到紧张，节奏也不够紧凑，这点可以对比一下《唐人街探案》就做的很好。而最后反转用的《非常嫌疑犯》的创意，不算新鲜但还算是个小惊喜。影片整体完成度很高，把喜剧和悬疑两种元素融合的很好，并且还讽刺了娱乐圈的各种现象。作为一部导演处女作，能看出刘循子墨在导演各方面技法上还非常稚嫩，但能看出用心，而且票房口碑都很成功。万合天宜终于在大荧幕支棱了一次。7分。

去掉一些明显玩尬的和略显稚嫩的剪辑，整片还是给我不少惊喜的，故事的展开和结尾的多重反转出人意料却也不无铺垫，群戏表演也集体在线，万合总算在迷失多年后找着了自己的路子呀
国产悬疑电影一直以来就只学会了故弄玄虚那一套，唬唬新观众要要票房还成，口碑自然是好不了。悬疑故事要上荧幕，反转诡计都不是重点，叙事的结构才是最为主要的。承认自己什么材料揽什么活，即使反转层数再简单，能让观众在那刹那明明白白地享受到乐趣，才是悬疑电影该做到的事情，而不是像影片开头那样，电影结束了问一句旁边的人“你看懂了吗?”。这部电影做的最有眼光的事情就是完全不去遮掩其戏剧性，大大方方地把它展现开来，利用起来。观众都知道他坐在电影院座位上看的是电影，你又能自欺欺人地说服自己是在重现现场吗?
被人反向安利，看完觉得这电影意外挺好看的啊，前半部分啰嗦，但也很搞笑，到中间有一股《无人生还》的感觉，每个人后面都有一个故事。充满政治隐喻，居然能过审，我也很意外。最后越南，伸出手，又收回来，很触动。

友邻平均分6.3，大家的眼睛还是雪亮的，无功无过，有想法但执行问题还是很多，部分台词太生硬了：
张本煜和邓家佳最好，张本煜是半路出家的演员，接近一九零身高在荧幕上特别有分量，不需要大吼大叫京腔气势远超其他男性了。不在电视上看邓家佳，原来她如此明艳，对角色的理解和诠释超出娱乐效果很多。真的受不了其他中老戏骨，一种北影高考名师的套路油腻感。
3.5-4 给足四星。当作鼓励吧。内核有点薄。所以前头一直在耍花活。其实不用搞成悬疑喜剧也行。只要悬疑就成。民国真是一个好年代。明眼人一看就是现代的故事还要搞到遥远的军阀时代。其实本身就是一个讽刺。就和最后他们只能跑到异国他乡才敢把片子拍出来一样。前面为了铺垫，一直在谈话太过于像话剧的舞台。节奏如果再加快一些会更好。我都隐约生出不耐感了。直到陆老板锁了门，感觉整个片子才像电影。最后不得不说，这也算是导演和编剧替电影人扬名立万吧。但感觉太过于爱惜片中几个角色。毕竟可能算是同行。笔下都留了情。不够花头不够坏不够铁石心肠不够蛇蝎，所以最后这几人都出现在越南就一点也不奇怪。。我倒挺想看更坏一些的人最后却站边好人来打的。有点遗憾。还是有点过于正面符号了些。

配角演技盖过主角
各种致敬各种梗。后面台词敏感度很高啊。如果去电影院我希望可以看的是这样的电影。
好久没看到万合天宜的一些作品，一看就知道他们在闷声做大事。这部片不是简单的电影世界彩蛋的堆叠，还用了戏中戏、借古讽今的方式讨论电影人的社会责任的问题。我们需要的不是仅仅取悦观众的电影，还需要有社会良知的人拍的电影（即使电影里讲的不一定是真相）。
大量烂俗梗铺垫了一个低级黑。国军内部腐败不堪连印军都打不过真是zzzq。故事背景也只能放在那时候，哪有大佬玩歌星这种子虚乌有的事。
